Not all decarbonisation is created equal. For maximum impact informed investment decisions are vital.
CSF’s discussion with Dr Lauren Gifford, Senior Advisor, Climate Philanthropy and Investing at Project Drawdown, explored how to truly reduce the underlying risk related to climate change, by significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Lauren unpacked Drawdown’s science-based approach to climate actions, and outlined how investors, policymakers and institutions can direct their attention, resources and capital for the greatest effect.
The conversation ranged from the role of climate mitigation in funding adaptation, to carbon and nature credit markets, the issues and opportunities currently shaping conversations among global investors and how philanthropy and impact investors use Drawdown’s Explorer tool to maximise impact,
Lauren highlighted the importance of enabling conducive conditions that allow climate solutions to scale. That means looking not only at where capital is allocated, but at the policy, market and institutional settings that can turn promising solutions into investable opportunities.
Ultimately, the discussion challenged us to look beyond managing and disclosing climate-related financial risk, and towards a more fundamental question: what will drive decarbonisation and resilience in the real economy?
