New Zealand has a competitive advantage when it comes to nature. Our clean green reputation and natural assets are a cornerstone of our national identity and critical drivers of our economy.
However, there is a gap in funding and investment into restoration and protection of our environment, upon which our brand and economy depend.
CSF is pleased to see today’s announcement from Associate Minister for the Environment, Andrew Hoggard, that the Government backs voluntary nature credits and will explore its role in setting principles, and a framework for standards, to build market confidence and ensure quality.
Key to the successful development of a credible market is clarity about the outcomes it needs to drive and the role the New Zealand Government will take at different stages of its development.
With the right settings in place to drive demand and high-integrity project supply, voluntary nature markets have potential to increase private financing for carbon removals and nature outcomes.
