Incorporating the things we care about into the strategic decision-making process

17 October 2024

The Centre for Sustainable Finance co-hosted with the External Reporting Board an in-person roundtable discussion for our Partners with Mark Gough, CEO of the Capitals Coalition on the theme of ‘Incorporating the things we care about into the strategic decision-making process.’

Fresh from his engagements at the New York Climate Week and the Global Nature Positive Summit 2024 in Sydney, Mark delved into the importance of integrating natural, social, and human capitals into strategic decision-making processes.

Some key takeaways from the session:

  • Value is the relative importance and worth of something, as opposed to its price in monetary terms.

  • The success of organisations around the world is dependent on the value they receive from these capitals.

  • The importance of using the capitals approach – and its three levers - for organisations to understand how their success is directly or indirectly underpinned by these capitals, empowering them to make decisions that offer the greatest value across all capitals.
