Mobilising capital for a resilient, low-emissions economy

29 September 2024

The Centre for Sustainable Finance Partners met with Adrian Orr, Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Hon. Simon Watts, Minister of Climate Change, Sean Kidney, CEO at Climate Bonds Initiative, Kristy Graham, CEO at Australian Sustainable Finance Institute, senior Government executives and finance industry leaders to discuss actionable recommendations for mobilising capital for a resilient, low-emissions New Zealand.

Climate-related weather events such as floods, storms and droughts, and the pressing need to transition to a low-emissions footing, must drive a reallocation of capital across key sectors of the New Zealand economy. Mobilising and directing capital towards sustainable outcomes, at requisite scale and pace, requires collaboration, coordination and leadership across public, private and Māori organisations. Government interventions to increase investment in sustainable or decarbonisation activities should involve a combination of regulatory, financial and market-driven approaches.
