MEDIA: Directors get guidebook on climate change governance

Non-executive directors seeking clarity over their and their organisations' climate change responsibilities can look to a new guide designed to prepare board members for new mandatory reporting requirements under the incoming New Zealand Climate Standards. Developed by Deloitte in partnership with Toitū Tahua: Centre for Sustainable Finance and the Sustainable Business Council, the 47-page “Directors’ guide to climate governance” will be launched at an event at Deloitte’s Auckland headquarters this evening.

Michelle Embling, a Toitū Tahua board member and chair of the External Reporting Board – which is behind the formation of the climate-related disclosures regime – said the idea is to help boards and organisations better manage risk and unlock opportunities, rather than introduce a new compliance exercise for its own sake.
